- (May 2012) PhD call for applications 2012: The call for applications for our PhD program has been published on May 11. PhD candidates can apply to take part in the PhD selection until June 7 at 6pm (Italian time). All necessary information is posted at http://www.phdeco.unibo.it/Admissions2012.php.
- (March 2012) LMEC - Laurea Magistralis in Economics: call for applications for 2012-2013 entry. The LMEC is a two-year Master of Science offered within the Graduate Program of the Department of Economics. It is an excellent opportunity for students who wish to become professional economists or to progress to a PhD Program in Italy or abroad. - (March 2012) The 7th edition of BoMoPaV Economics Meeting will be held in Bologna on 30 March. BoMoPaV is a joint initiative of the Departments of Economics at the Universities of Bologna, Modena-Reggio Emilia, Padova and (as new entry) Venezia. This year the workshop involves presentations from two young researchers for each economics department. All the collegues, the post-doc researchers , and ph.D students are cordially invitated to attend and contribute to the discussion (contact Matteo Cervellati ).
- (March 2012) The 9th meeting of the European Network on the Economics of the Firm (ENEF) is being held at the University of Bologna, 13-14 September 2012. The theme of the workshop is "Functional and geographical boundaries of the firm". Proposals for papers should be sent to dse.enef2012@unibo.it by the end of May 2012. - (February 2012) The 9th Young Economists’ Workshop on Social Economy will be held on 15-16 June 2012 at the University of Bologna, Forli Campus. Theoretical, empirical, and experimental papers on the topics of social capital, social norms, cooperative and social enterprises, social preferences, and relational goods are welcome. Presenters at the Workshop must at most be 35 years old to be eligible.

The Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF) funds research projects in economics and finance to foster high-quality and policy-relevant research in Italy. - (July 2011) UniCredit & Universities call for application. 3 Crivelli Europe Scholarships (€ 25,000 each + fees) for graduates in Economics and Finance wishing to go abroad for a PhD program; 1 Foscolo Europe Fellowship (€ 60,000) for post-doc researchers in Economics and Finance currently abroad and wishing to come back to Europe; 8 grants (€ 4,200 each) to all the best European students in the fields of economics or finance, wishing to spend a period of six months of study exchange programme abroad to/from Serbia and Russia.
- (July 2011) Francesca Fauri has been awarded a Jean Monnet Chair by the European Commission. In particular, she has been assigned €45,000 financing for a Lifelong Learnning - Jean Monnet project for developing research on "The European Communities and Migration: an Historical Perspective" in collaboration with the Europe Direct office in Forlì. The three-year project will help improve the knowledge about past and present migration issues and challenges, increase public opinion awareness, perform analysis and scientific research on migration history, including its development and its role in the present context, disseminating results to the general public.

(July 2011) MIUR has published the list of the national research projects PRIN which will be co-financed. Overall, 543 projects will be financed. For 29 of these, the head unit will be based at UNIBO. Of all the projects, 17 belong to Area 13 (Economics / Business / Statistics). Two of the approved projects are headed by DSE members: Giorgio Bellettini and Andrea Ichino. Congratulations and best wishes for a successful research to our two colleagues and their collaborators.
- (July 2011) Enrico Ballardini, Andrea Blasco, Matthias Bürker, Gaetano D’Adamo, Marco D’Errico, Francesco Manaresi, Mattia Nardotto, Giuseppe Quinto, Alessia Russo have been awarded their PhD title. Congratulations!.
- May, 2011- Call for applications: Nino Andreatta Fellowship. The fellowship provides a salary of US $ 45.000,00, gross, plus benefits and research funds, and it is open to scholars with a Ph.D. degree in the Social Sciences. For the academic year 2011-12 priority will be given to to Italian candidates who gained a Ph.D. abroad, in management and economics. Application deadline: June 24th, 2011. - May, 2011- Anna Soci was awarded the Alexander Bodini research fellowship by the Italian Academy for the Advanced Studies in America at Columbia University. The fellowship will last from January to April 2012.

- April, 2011 - Davide Dragone receives the 2011 research grant promoted by the Italian Health Economics Association (AIES) and sponsored by the FarmaFactoring Foundation. The research project focuses on the effect of antismoking policies on obesity; the other researchers in the team are Luca Savorelli and Francesco Manaresi, University of Bologna - Department of Economics.
- April 2011 - As program director of the Institute for the Study of Labor (IZA), Hartmut Lehmann has won the World Bank-IZA research project "Skills towards Productivity and Employment: The Case of Ukraine", financed by the Multi-Donor Trust Fund (the governments of Austria, Germany, Korea, Norway and Switzerland) and IZA for an amount of 300,000 US$.
- March 2011 - The Department of Economics welcomes three new Assistant Professors in Economics: Mauro Carboni (Forlì), Davide Dragone (Bologna), and Roberto Patuelli (Rimini).
- March 2011 - The Department of Economics congratulates Andrea Vezzulli, winner of the grant for a Research Program in "Retail Banking and Finance", developed jointly by the Department of Economics and the Department of Management, and financed by UniCredit Banca S.p.A. Research project - contract theory, Research project - empirical.
- February 2011 - The 6th edition of BOMOPA Economics Meeting will be held in Modena on April 15th . BOMOPA is a joint initiative of the Departments of Economics at the Universities of Bologna, Modena-Reggio Emilia and Padova. Each year, three papers are selected from each Department. Submissions from young researchers (including Ph.D. Students, Research Fellows) in any field in economics will be given special consideration. Those who are interested in presenting should send the title of their paper and names of co-authors, if any, as well as the abstract or a draft of their paper to Matteo Cervellati by February 14th.
- January 2011 - University of Bologna was ranked in the Top 100 of Economics Schools Research Ranking by Tilburg University, together with 29 universities in Europe (only two in Italy). The Tilburg University worldwide ranking is based on publications in the fields of economics, econometrics and finance in leading economic journals over the period 2005-2009.

- July 2010 - UniCredit & Universities call for application (deadline 31 October 2010). Foscolo Europe Fellowship aimed at researchers who graduated from European universities, completed a Ph.D. in economics or finance outside of Europe and intend to return to Europe to continue their research. - April 2010 - A research group of the Department coordinated by Margherita Fort together with research groups at the University of Padua (coordinator: Erich Battistin) and at the University of Venice (coordinator: Mario Padula) has received a "FIRB-Futuro in Ricerca" grant for a project on "The Policy Implications of Demographic Ageing". The Ministery for Education, University, and Research will provide an amout of 401.400 euros over three years for the three research Units working on the project.
- April 2010 - A research group of the Department coordinated by Marco Casari has received a "FIRB-Futuro in Ricerca" grant for a project on "Social norms and intertemporal choices: a behavioral approach." The Ministery for Education, University, and Research will provide an amout of 346.520 euros over four years.

October 2009 - Giacomo Calzolari, Marco Casari and Matteo Cervellati are three of the eight recipients of the 2008 EIEF grant. The Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF) funds research projects in economics and finance to foster high-quality and policy-relevant research in Italy. In 2008, eight projects out of 39 applications have been selected for funding.
